Oh, what a night …. as the 70’s song says. Once in a while all the stars align and weather, water and flies are on the same page …. which results in an awesome experience on the water. I was able to float about 5 miles of one of my favorite NW Wisconsin rivers in search of big smallmouth on the fly. As you see from the video … the fish were chasing and truly believed that my white “reversed tied bucktail” fly was indeed a meal!
I love the outdoors …. but when it all comes together and beauty is all around, it feels more like church than it does fishing. Maybe you have experienced this yourself … if so, you know how cathartic a trip like this is for the soul!
If you are curious about the fly I am using, click here and you can watch me giving a fly-tying demo of the “reversed-tied bucktail”.
I hope you love the video and, as always, if you have any questions you can leave a comment for me below in the comment section and I will get back to you as soon as I can. God Bless and many bent fly rods to you!

As I have said, many times …. the beauty of NW Wisconsin is endless and the Totagatic River is one of those hidden gems. Unfortunately the water was very low and made for some tough fishing …. but enough smallies were caught to make for a very enjoyable day. Along with me was my good […]
Today was a special day … a perfect weather Sunday and an opportunity to catch some quality smallmouth on my favorite river, the St. Croix. Our spring was long and cold and it took a while for the smallies to find their summer spots … but finally they have and what great action I had. […]
What an incredible day …. in all my years fly fishing all over this great country, I am not sure I have enjoyed a day more than I did this one when I went fly fishing for brookies. And to think it was all literally in my backyard, wow! I take my kayak and paddle […]
