Hey folks, fly fishing with Jeff here …. while my summer of fly fishing started off with a bang it is now currently in a major whimper. If you haven’t noticed or paid attention to the upper great lakes … we are in one of the worst droughts in a very long time. So, I thought I would give you a fly fishing and drought update.
Our three local rivers have all dried up and are currently running at very low levels. In fact the St Croix, which I will call my home water, is so low that it really isn’t feasible to even think about doing any fishing as you would be doing more walking and dragging of the boat than anything else. I can also tell you that the last two trips out on the river were lots of small fish. I just don’t think there is enough oxygen or food to support the large smallmouth and that is truly a giant disappointment.
So, this short video is for all of you who, on occasion, will email me or contact me to make sure all is well; it is! Life is great and my woodworking passion has turned into an outlet that really gives me a lot to do each day. My wife Vickie and I have done several craft shows this summer and have plans for a couple of more this fall.
Lastly, good Lord willing … I will be back on the water, rod in hand this upcoming spring and I can only hope and pray that the water levels will return. If you have any questions or comments you can reach me via email at flyfishingwithjeff@gmail.com.
