Greetings Fly Fishing With Jeff followers; in today’s video, I am not fly fishing but in SW Minnesota pheasant hunting …. which is my other great outdoor passion. I love to hunt these large tracts of big grasses in search of pheasants and have been doing so for just over 40 years.
As you watch today’s video you can appreciate the conservation tool of a great bird dog; Papi is my 11 year old German Wirehaired Pointer. I have 3 total, Holly who is 6 and Aldo who you may have watched as a little pup this past summer, he is now 6 months old and doing very well in his learning from the older dogs.
In both of these singular hunts I was able to harvest a gorgeous pheasant with the help of Papi and his nose. As you watch you can listen for a single beep of the collar (dog is on the move) and a double beep of the collar (dog has found and pointed the bird). It is safe to say that if I didn’t have a bird dog … or three …. I wouldn’t be hunting. Watching them work and course the grass, trailing and then pointing a running pheasant is a sight to behold.
I hope you like the video and if there are any follow up questions please place those in the comment section below and I will do my best to get back to you with a good answer.
