Hey folks, welcome back to another video with Jeff. Today we are on the upper St Croix in search of smallmouth and doing so with a floating line and a self tied pucker lip fly. (Click here to learn how to tie the pucker lip fly). Our season has been short thus far due to the heavy rains that we have had and finally the fish are looking up for a meal!
I have my 10′ 7 wt fly rod that allows me to really reach out and place a long cast into some tight spots. The super cool part about this float is that the current was taking me along at about 2mph and this allowed for me to make cast close to the shore and then allow the fly to pop and struggle over the top of the best water possible for a very long time … crazy efficient when it all comes together.
There is absolutely nothing like seeing a big topwater explosion and in this video you can see several of the takes as the smallmouth explode up and through what they believe is a helpless and struggling baitfish.
Hope you like the video and remember you can ask me a question by going below in the comment section or by sending me an email at flyfishingwithjeff@gmail.com and I will do my best to give you a good and honest answer.
