Let me start off by telling you that within this video is the best 30 minute section of fly fishing that I have ever experienced in my 45 plus year career. On that note I will apologize for the video going so long but it was difficult and almost impossible for me to cut too much … and, in fact, I didn’t even get to my second camera that had a lot of good action.
Some days you just hit it right … right time, right fly, etc. … and today was one of those days. I certainly won’t apologize for the success as there are lots of long hours on the river with nothing or very little to show for my time. What made this day particularly enjoyable was the fact that I landed these many fish on one of my own pucker-lipped poppers. As I said … it was the right fly at the right time … and with the right presentation.
To be able to land a 19 and 20 inch smallmouth bass on basically back to back casts is and will always be special. I knew that there was indeed some big fish lurking in the pool below my popper. To follow that up with a nice musky was the icing on the cake; landing the musky on a 7 weight with 16 pound mono was also a bit lucky …. but I will take it!
I hope you enjoy the video. You can leave comments below in the comment section or you can email me directly at flyfishingwithjeff@gmail.com. I will do my best to get back to you with a response as quickly as possible.
