Short and sweet; this video shows me tying a version of my trout candy that I have just started using and have had great results from it. The recipe is as follows:
Hook – Cabela’s Plated Jighead in size 1/64 (brass)
Tail – Silver Bucktail; a piece long enough to extend an inch and a half from the eye.
Body – Wapsi’s Palmer Chenille in small pearl gray
The fly is sold in larger sizes (1/32, 1/16) and could be a great go-to fly for panfish and bass alike. I am tying the fly in olive, black, silver and my favorite, crème. If you watch the video from Roaring River you can see how effective the fly actually is. In the Roaring River video (posted a few days ago) I am fishing the fly using my 3 weight rod, sink tip 1 fly line and 3X tippet. This set up works very well with the 1/64 size fly.
Best of luck with the fly; let me know if you have success with it. If you have questions you can contact me in the comment section at the bottom of this page or by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org.

In this video I take a small/short trip down the St Croix River here in NW Wisconsin in search of my favorite game fish …. the smallmouth bass. The water is as low as I have ever seen it and for sure it requires some stealth in both approaching and casting to these fish. The […]
Hey folks …. Jeff here with a really neat video. If you haven’t yet tried ‘going-small’ while fishing for smallmouth …. give it a go. There is nothing better than fighting a big smallmouth in river current with a smaller rod … in this case, I use my 3 weight along with floating line. I […]
Oh, what a night …. as the 70’s song says. Once in a while all the stars align and weather, water and flies are on the same page …. which results in an awesome experience on the water. I was able to float about 5 miles of one of my favorite NW Wisconsin rivers in […]
