Hey folks …. Jeff here with a really neat video. If you haven’t yet tried ‘going-small’ while fishing for smallmouth …. give it a go. There is nothing better than fighting a big smallmouth in river current with a smaller rod … in this case, I use my 3 weight along with floating line.
I give you some specific hands on fly fishing instruction on how to better land these beauties using one of my reverse tied bucktail flies. I think you will find this approach both novel and very productive; especially in these low water, late season outings where the fish are lounging around and looking for a big meal … while having to expend very little energy.
I love using the smaller rods … used to do this a lot, however, my shoulder has progressively taken a turn for the worse and casting a long line with the shorter rods can literally be a handful. On this small stream I was able to get close and the 3 weight was the right application.
As always, you can leave a comment below or reach out to me at email@example.com. I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner. Hope you have a great end to Summer….

In this video I take a small/short trip down the St Croix River here in NW Wisconsin in search of my favorite game fish …. the smallmouth bass. The water is as low as I have ever seen it and for sure it requires some stealth in both approaching and casting to these fish. The […]
Oh, what a night …. as the 70’s song says. Once in a while all the stars align and weather, water and flies are on the same page …. which results in an awesome experience on the water. I was able to float about 5 miles of one of my favorite NW Wisconsin rivers in […]
Hey folks …. Jeff here with yet another simple, but very fun video. On this Sunday night I grabbed a 3 wt, float tube and a few terrestrials and headed to a small lake just a couple of minutes from home. If you haven’t yet tried a float tube, there is no time like right […]
