Float Tubing and Fly Fishing To Start 2025

Welcome back to another video adventure. Today’s video comes from one of my favorite little lakes located about a mile from our cabin and just full of hungry bass and bluegill. Winter is now behind us and spring has crept slowly into the Wisconsin north woods , so it’s a great time to do some float tubing and fly fishing.

I grabbed my float tube and 4 wt fly rod and made my way about a mile south to one of my favorite small lakes … just perfect for a float tube, I caught several nice, chunky bass along with some bluegill, oh, and was bombed by a Greater Yellowleg while on the lake as she was apparently nesting and didn’t want me fishing or anywhere near her on the water!

My turkey season, also, started this week and what an amazing set of hunts; in four days I was able to call in 6 mature Tom turkeys to shotgun range. I harvested my bird in mid afternoon after his hens had left him for the day.

And my good friend Duane and I followed that up the next morning with the single best turkey hunt I have had in my 40 plus years of hunting America’s bird. In the first 90 minutes we called to and ‘danced’ with 7-9 mature gobblers and it all ended when 3 full bearded Tom turkeys came running down a logging road over 1/4 of a mile, gobbling and strutting the entire way.

What a great week and how much fun to have nature in your backyard! Remember you can leave me a comment below or ask a question by emailing me at flyfishingwithjeff@gmail.com and I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner.

Smallmouth and Musky – On the Fly – Upper St Croix River

What a great day out on the St Croix River as my friend Duane and I fly fished about 3-4 miles of the upper portion of the river; and just in case you are curious, there are lots of definitions of ‘upper’ but for me it is above the Riverside Landing where Wisconsin 35 crosses […]

Poppers for Trophy Smallmouth Bass in May and On the Fly

Once again my good friend Duane and I set out on an adventure on the St Croix River in pursuit of smallmouth bass. On this day mother nature had turned a cold shoulder with 44 degree temps and winds blowing straight from Canada at 20-25 mph … making for some pretty nippy fly fishing. Before […]
