I found a truly inspiring fly fishing article today by Michigan native, Dave Karcinski….it is titled “Dialed In.” It’s one of the best pieces I’ve read in quite some time. Please give this a read as Dave walks you, the reader, through some advanced thoughts and concepts to make you a better fly guy.

There is no better time to start thinking about a re-model in your own wiring…meaning think differently about certain set ups. How often we just continue to muddle our way through with little or no success and we do so without trying to venture out on a limb. This year step back and think about diversifying your fly fishing portfolio. Be well rounded as you hit the stream. Take advice from anyone and everyone…at least lend an ear to what is working for them…even if ‘them’ are gear guys.
I think you’ll enjoy this well written piece as well as I did and if there is one thing I see often from novice fly guys…they are afraid to step out of their comfort zone. Lastly, I love the advice written by Dave on tying your own flies. These are truths that you’ll only understand once you’ve made a connection between fly tying and the water moving in front of you! If you really want to connect with more fish, then be a better fly tyer.
