Welcome back to another video with fly fishing with Jeff. Today I am on the upper St. Croix in mid June … the very upper reaches, just a few miles from the river’s source and fishing for big smallmouth. The water has been low … luckily we had a couple of inches of good, cold rain just two night before and the rain raised the river just a bit and seemed to raise the ‘spirits’ of the fish as well.
When fishing ‘skinny’ water (shallow water) you need to make long casts and keep your skyline well below the fish level so that they don’t spook as easily. As you can see from the video, when the circumstances come together; line, leader, tippet and fly …. good things happen. It is this puzzle that has to be constantly figured out and adjusted that makes this game so much fun.

I hope you like the video and if you have any questions … you can send them to me via flyfishingwithjeff@gmail.com or by leaving a comment at the bottom of this page. I will do my best to get back to you quickly with an accurate answer.

Low Water, Upstream Wind And A 20 Inch Smallmouth Bass
