Back Home Again in Indiana for Great Smallmouth Action

My two weeks UP North in Wisconsin came to an end and we made the 650 mile trip back to southern Indiana … I spent the next day mowing our acreage and getting things back to what they were supposed to look like and then called my friend Frank. Off to try our hand at some local smallmouth fishing … an hour north and we found clear water.

Frank would drop me off and I would do the upper several miles and he would drive down to the next entry point and walk downstream where I would pick him up four hours later.

The water had a perfect color to it; not too clear but not murky either. My second cast ended up with a small fish and then the next ten minutes or so was exactly what a person wants while fishing for smallmouth…they were up and aggressive … and chasing my baitfish pattern.

Over the course of the next couple hours I managed to land 20-30 smallies and a few were in the 15 inch range. As the temperature rose I was glad to be knee deep in cool water and happy that the fish were cooperating.

On the drive home, Frank and I talked about our day and the fish we caught; we both had had success with baitfish patterns and both managed to land a few nice fish from the stream. My time in Wisconsin was awesome and I am already looking forward to yet another trip later this summer but walking the waters of Indiana with a good friend was a great day!
