Hey folks, welcome back to part 2 of my smallmouth on the upper St Croix River fly fishing adventure. In today’s video I put in at the take out point from my Part 1 video and make my way down 4 to 5 miles of the most spectacular water around. I land a few smallmouth and also give some tips and advice for better fly fishing for these native wonders, the smallmouth bass.
I discuss in this video how to use kick fins along with the float boat to work my way down river … while pushing against an upstream wind. Without the kick fins, you would be spending a lot of time rowing the boat and not be able to control your drift or your casting along the way.
I also discuss back casting in depth and give some details to why it is important and how it might just save you some pain and soreness in your casting arm. For sure, being able to back cast will make you a more versatile fly fisherman and when the situation is right, as it was here on this day, you will need to be able to back cast or choose to go left handed so you don’t have to turn your casting shoulder inside out!
If you have any questions, please leave those in the comment section below or you can reach me at flyfishingwithjeff@gmail.com. I will do my best to get back to you quickly with an accurate answer.
