NW Wisconsin’s Big Smallmouth On The Fly

Welcome back folks to another video on Fly Fishing with Jeff as me and my buddy Duane drift about 4 miles of a beautiful river here in NW Wisconsin. My goal on the day was to catch any and everything I could on the fly … as it turns out, it was indeed a great day as we both landed big smallies (smallmouth bass) in excess of 18 inches along with several other nice, fat river fish.

Once again I am using a pair of 7 weight rigs; one with sink tip 1 line and the other with floating line. Both 7 weight rigs are strung with metal tippet to help with landing the toothy fish that we have in our rivers. At the end of the video you will see me discussing metal tippet a bit further in better trying to help those who might be coming from waters without pike and musky … to better have a handle on how and what to expect.

As always, it is great to have a good friend along and Duane is turning into a very competent and successful fly fisherman. In our last two outings he had landed a smallmouth bass in the 19 inch range and for a guy who had never fly fished just over two years ago, he is really doing nicely and figuring things out quickly; which doesn’t surprise me at all as he was already a good fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman.

As always if you have any questions regarding the video or anything else fly fishing related …. leave a comment below or you can reach me via email at flyfishingwithjeff@gmail.com and I will do my best to get back to you with a competent answer.
