Finally, I am out on the St. Croix River in 2024. May was very busy and we had a lot of rain … enough to bring the river up a full foot for most of the month. Come along with me as I do 3 to 4 miles of the upper St Croix in search of big smallmouth on the fly.
With my 7wt rod/reel in hand and one of my reverse-tied bucktail flies … the fish were up and following which led to some intense takes. On the day I landed two 18 inch fish along with another that was in that range. What an awesome day on the water and so nice to be out on the river all by my lonesome.
