This video shows me tying a crayfish pattern that has been very successful the past few weeks. I am fishing it with floating line and simply jigging and bouncing the fly along the bottom through deeper holes. If you can follow and watch the fly you can even sight fish for big smallies by allowing the fly to sit on the bottom and enticing them to pick it up…then set the hook. I have caught several this way and it is a very exciting way to catch nice fish. The technology for the body is borrowed from Casey Smartt who ties a fly called the deadhead minnow. The fly is not that tough to tie and will produce excellent results for small mouths. By the way, you’ll need a brush for this pattern and I have a video on how to make your own, just click here.

Greetings from Fly Fishing with Jeff; once again I have found my way back out on another of the three local rivers that are all within 4 miles of our cabin here in NW Wisconsin. In today’s video, I land several big smallmouth bass on the river, lose one angry musky and catch a couple […]
Four Species of Big Fish On The Fly

NW Wisconsin’s Big Smallmouth On The Fly

Hi Jeff,
I have been enjoying your videos. I am just learning to tie flies. looking forward to trying this pattern out. would you mind sharing the actual brand, materials and colors of the ingredients for the one you fished in your video? the legs looks lighter in the fishing video than the tying one I think. I have not tried fly fishing only spinning. The fly fishing community has been so friendly, helpful, encouraging, unselfish, and just fun to get involved with.
thanks for making videos. I am a visual learner so it really helps me. take care, AJ
