A Lazy Day for Smallmouth and Pike On The Fly

Another day on the upper St Croix River and another great adventure for my good friend Duane and myself. The air was cool and there was some rain in and around us … barometer was falling and the fish were biting, especially a few big pike and smallmouth bass.

What a complete treasure to have this awesome river just a couple of miles down the road. Truth is our smallmouth season is coming to a close as the smallies start to migrate south towards the deeper holes of the lower St Croix around Labor Day each year. Until then … I will be aboard the river, fly rod in hand and looking for the next big connection and hopefully a few more trophies before we close out the 2025 season.

I hope you enjoyed the video as it was just a totally pleasant day rolling down the river in pursuit of anything that would eat a popper or a streamer.
